Music and working out go hand in hand. The right music gets you in a good mood and you feel like moving, almost automatically…

Tips?
So, what makes a great workout song?
Here are some basic guidelines to help you get started:

Find positive, upbeat songs. Don’t play those slow tempo songs during your workout. It just doesn’t work out. Pick uplifting songs from your favorite band or artist.

Find out the right tempo for your workout. Slow rhythms are great for slow activities and standard exercises. Play a fast track if you feel like burning calories.

Find a rhythmic song. Rhythmic exercises need rhythmic songs. Jogging, running, working out are all very rhythmic exercises. A powerful beat helps you keep the pace.

What tempo?
It’s obvious that slow exercises like walking or yoga don’t need those powerful high paced rhythms. Also high impact workouts and slow songs don’t mix.
The best exercise songs have a pace between 120 to 140 beats-per-minute, or just B.P.M.
Let’s look at different activities and determine their pace.

Workout activities:

110 – 125 BPM

Walking.

An active walking pace is about 120 “steps” per minute. Depending on the walker it varies between 110 steps and 130 steps per minute.

120 – 128 BPM

Rhythmic workouts.

Most workout exercises are rhythmic and repeating. A rhythm of 120 to 128 B.P.M. ensures that exercises are easy to follow and that movements feel natural.

130 – 140 BPM

High impact exercises.

These exercises are more intensive and more complex. They use higher B.P.M, which raises hart beat and breathing rate.

130 – 150 BPM

Jogging.

Slow jogging has a pace of around 130 steps per minute. With running you take about 150 steps per minute.

Over 150 BPM

Running, fast cardio

These fast beats are for running and fast cardio. They are great calorie burners!

Slow activities:

About 100 BPM

Warming up & cooling down.

You don’t want to overstretch, so slow the pace down.

80 BPM or less.

Relaxation, Yoga

Excellent for doing yoga or relaxation exercises.

Match your song with the workout you’re planning to do!
.

Motivation songs?
Feel tired? Just play your favorite “high energy” song and feel better again.
Rhythmic songs help you get active. It helps you doing those tedious household duties or energy-demanding tasks.
You just feel better with great background music.
